Altamira Cave was discovered in 1868 by a hunter who was trying to free his dog that was trapped between rocks while his paintings were discovered in 1879 by Marcelino Sanz de Sautuola , meaning its findings, one of the most spectacular Paleolithic rock art .

Altamira Museum Entry

The original cave, which is World Heritage Site since 1985 , you can not visit, thus ensuring conservation of the paintings are in this, but for all visitors have been reproduced at the Museum of Altamira, the Neocave , where you can observe the structure and the original cave paintings.

Museum Altamira

Until it came time to enter the New Cave, visited the room devoted to the times of Altamira, take a coffee in the cafeteria of the museum, I bought a notebook and a pen in the shop souvenirs and visit the surroundings of the Museum.

Once we enter the New Cave, we put a video on the history of Altamira, during our tour we can observe a Paleolithic camp later excavations, the paint shop, paint room where we see bison, horses, deer, goats ...

The paintings we saw there were made with ocher paintings natural red and black outlines, reminded me a lot to the cave we had visited the previous day, that of Tito Bustillo in Ribadesella , Asturias.

Tito Bustillo cave entrance

We had reserved from entry and one month ago, hence the entry, under Tito Bustillo Cave is yellow deleted data my boyfriend's personal. Well, in this cave I loved the wonderful explanations of the monitor that we had, stalactites and stalagmites as well as the paintings that we saw (horses, deer ...), because when it's true not like Altamira, made the place was magical.

For those want to visit both caves I leave here these two pages, Altamira Cave and Tito Bustillo Cave .

Next to Jerusalem, Rome and Santiago de Compostela, one of the holy places of Christianity. As we did not take photos inside I have searched this photo on the Internet, for you appreciate how beautiful it is this cross.

SANTOÑA

Another day the weather was not, decided to go to Laredo and Santoña , our intention was visit the Lighthouse Horse and Faro del Pescador , anchored Santoña incredible cliffs. We first visited Laredo, and then we went to Santoña, there we ate at this incredible BBQ grilled sardines and Marmitako.

Next to this yard was a Plaza de Toros, which photographed, and just in front in an underground parking our car was parked.

Plaza de Toros de Santoña

This bullring was opened in 1907, on 7 September date on which celebrates the maritime procession in honor of the Virgen del Puerto . This square is divided into eight lines, and not finding anyone in the office to ask permission to enter the photograph from the entrance. Once we took the car we went to the Lighthouse of the Fisherman, and on our way we met with the Criminal The Dueso. When we climbed the lighthouse road, each time more the road narrowed. We passed several cars, and to pass both the truth was a little tricky. When we reached the lighthouse was in the works, and we could not enter, so we turned the car crossed back with more cars, this time was a bit more complicated, to our right as we were the cliffs, and the experience left us wanting to visit the other headlight, but the views were beautiful. Actually the best thing was to make the journey on foot, in fact we find many passersby. So you can see how wonderful are these lights, I have searched several photos on the Internet.

MY HOLIDAY IN CANTABRIA II

This second part of my vacation, I will devote to Santarder and Suances , and I must leave the caves of Altamira, the Monastery of Santo Toribio de Liebana, Santoña , San Vicente de la Barquera and elsewhere, for a third post, because there are too many photos to put in one post. If you already said the saying, "no two without three" good and speaking of sayings hope it does not meet the "sequels are never good." Well sayings aside, Let's go!

SANTANDER

I loved Santander, its people, beaches, buildings, everything. We visited well above the city, because that day was such a good time, we spent most of the day in Playa del Sardinero , from which, at the back could see the Magdalena Peninsula Which, we would visit later. Both the Magdalena Peninsula, as the Palace are a wonderful place, and you can see how beautiful it is, I have scanned one of the postcards I bought, which has an aerial view of the area beautiful baby.

Postal the Magdalena Peninsula

To visit the Peninsula, we use the Magdaleno, a tourist train that took us travel throughout the peninsula and also with explanations of each of the places in the Peninsula and its history.

Tourist Train Magdaleno

Taking pictures from the train was a little tricky, especially when I had to take the pictures side is covered, as in most of the photos came out reflected but still I managed all this.

Palacio de la Magdalena from train

This Royal Palace was built between 1909 and 1911 by popular subscription, to house the English royal family. From 1913 to 1930, was the summer residence of King Alfonso XIII and Victoria Eugenia. Currently houses the courses Menendez Pelayo International University . I have searched the internet for a better picture of the palace, since you took from the train, the Palace is not appreciated in all its fullness.

Once past the palace, began to descend until the end of the trail, leaving us next three ships, a raft and a small zoo .

The three ships were used by the navigator Cantabrian Vital Alsar , to commemorate the journey of Francisco de Orellana , and later donate to Santarder. We continued walking, our visit to the peninsula of Magdalena, and a little later we found a small free zoo, home to sea lions , penguins and seals .

Here ended our visit to the Peninsula de la Magdalena, now we was a steep hill to climb to get to our car. And then, about 30 minutes to get to our hotel in Suances.

SUANCES

I already had told you in my previous post, our hotel was in Suances. We chose this town, in addition to its attractive, for its privileged location . Since being in the center of the Cantabrian coast, allows us to be in very little time in any part of it.

Brochure Suances Tourist Office

In this photo you have then click where it says if you make hotel, you can access a page that informs you of its facilities and prices, if you ever want to visit this area, the hotel was really great, and their situation was very good because we had so much the center of the town and its beaches at your doorstep, and from our terrace We had an incredible view of the estuary San Martín de la Arena .

In Suances we find beautiful places, I remember the first day we arrived, after leaving the luggage at the hotel, visit the whole village. First we went to the Punta del Blessed , there we visited the Lighthouse and photograph the cliffs of the Playa de Los Locos , the landscape itself is extremely impressive, vertiginous cliffs.

Then around the corner, I could not resist photographing from the car, this castle is now a hotel.

Hotel "The Castle"

This hotel was situated on the beach "Los Locos" , before becoming a hotel, was a real stone castle, the Baron of Peramola whim.

I'd like to show more pictures, but in most Suances, we or my boyfriend or me, and I like to put personal photos, so for those who wish to see more pictures of Suances, I recommend you visit these pages Suances Net and Young Cantabria. I hope you enjoy this second part, as well as the first, and you happen to be the same with the next.

MY HOLIDAY IN CANTABRIA I

summer last year, I've been on holiday in Cantabria , particularly in Suances , though in truth we were just there to go to sleep and shower in the hotel all week because we spent all day, or visiting Cantabria, or down to the beach. So, here we go with this holiday that I have divided into two post, in the amount of pictures I had of that trip. In this first post, we'll go Comillas and Soplao Cave.

COMILLAS

This town, is located on the west coast Cantabria, and counts among its most prominent attractions, University Pontificia , the Capricho de Gaudí and the Palace Sobrellano .

"El Capricho" Gaudi

This beautiful building that now houses a restaurant inside was designed by Antonio Gaudí and built between 1883 and 1885 under the direction of architect Cascante Colom. His real name is Villa Quijano, and was commissioned by Maximo Diaz de Quijano, brother of Marqués de Comillas , which wanted a summer house near the Palace of Sobrellano. In the basement houses a souvenir shop, and in the back we can find a terrace, and a statue of Gaudí sitting, where all were photographed in the same position at his side. In terms of design, mainly because of the tower and ceramic ornaments which had drawn hundreds of sunflowers.

If we walk uphill, a little later we find the Palacio de Sobrellano , Which we visited, and where we get a surprise, since in the Palace itself was filming scenes of the English film "Barbykiller: You will die by it" . This beautiful palace was the work of Catalan architect Joan Martorell , commissioned by the second Marquis of Comillas. And between the Palace and El Capricho de Gaudí, we can also admire a beautiful chapel-pantheon.

If the above photo, note where it says you can observe that warns of the recording of the film, which, for a few days closed Palace. We were lucky because the day we went, the recordings were already finalized, and only recorded on the top floor and abroad, so that during the visit, we could not see the rooms upstairs.

main facade of the Palace of Sobrellano

interior The visit was well guided in every room of the ground floor was explaining to us as well as decoration, history of the Villa de Comillas (the guide told us that was the first town Comillas in Spain that had street lighting electricity), and the life of the Marquis Comillas and his successors. After visiting all the ground floor, let's go upstairs but did not enter the rooms.

After a visit inside the Palace, we decided to see a bit of filming that was taking place at that time in the back of Palacio, there we sat in a kind of stands and took pictures of the recording of the film, one of whose players has Alejo Sauras and Ángel de Andrés López (coming in the picture dressed black suit).

We stayed a while watching the recording, I remember a scene repeated about six or seven times during the time we were there. The scene looked like brought in a man in a trunk and how it came out later and fell on top of mattresses. It was all we could see. As we had already seen several times the same scene, we decided to return to the center of town, but first photograph from the slopes of the Palace, the Pontificia Universidad . Founded in 1890 and built by Pope Leo the XIII , and that in its beginnings was a Catholic seminary for the training of candidates for the priesthood.

Once we go down the slopes that we will give the Paseo Solatorre Castillo, an Italian restaurant there (Quo Vadis) was where we had eaten before making all these visits, and where I had my eye on a store where I bought several postcards of Comillas, plus quesadas Pas Lugo arrived in perfect condition. And where photographed in one of its many doors, this friendly cow were out, although you can not read, the poster put not play, but said nothing as no photograph, a servant of immortalized the memory.

Comillas Our visit ended here, we only stayed for a site visit, the Comillas Cemetery, which has the ancient ruins of an old monastery and Exterminating Angel Joseph Llimona , which took me into beautiful postcards. Still, many more beautiful places of this beautiful village left without shooting, but can enjoy this page .

Soplao

One day the weather was not much we decided to visit the Cuevas Soplao , located in the Sierra Cabuérniga Shield . entry We had not booked, so I did not know if we could visit, but fortunately there were vacancies for the last visit. While it was our turn, took the opportunity to visit the store, which was the truth, a variety of things pertaining to the cave, and then we took a coffee, which came not too bad, because the cave is up in the mountains and the cold became noticed. When our turn came, boarded the train mining that would take us into the cave, while people were going to get two photos I took, it did not stop to take pictures inside.

The beginning of our visit inside the cave

I'd like to share with you all the wonders I saw there on our trip of almost 1500 meters the inside of the cave, which took us almost an hour, but as I said above, taking photographs was prohibited. Everything was very well prepared, the train took us into the cave by a tunnel about 400 meters . Once arrived at our destination we got off the train and our guide took us walking down the mining galleries, inside the cave with only a flashlight, once we put it out there, and began a beautiful light show, and a voice that was going to explain each of the spaces that we were seeing on our tour. As I do not want you to stay without appreciating the interior of the caves, for its stalactites and stalagmites were impressive, nor the history of this magnificent place, I recommend you visit the official website of Soplao . Once our journey ended, the train took us outside. The trip was wonderful. It was a shame the weather was so bad, despite being in July, saying that since the Soplao, you can see beautiful views of Peña Sagra, Naranjo de Bulnes, Pico Tres Mares, Sierra leather and Cantabrian Sea.

Entry to the Cave Train

Cantabria We said goodbye until next post, which will take you to other beautiful places that have nothing to envy these two that we visited today.
