Cappadocia is a region located in the area of \u200b\u200bCentral Anatolia , in central Turkey . Its name comes from "Katpadukya" which means "land of beautiful horses", as formerly, many of them ran through this region.
Cappadocia in Roman times
This region is characterized by its geological formation, which is unique in the world. And example of this are Fairy Chimneys .
Fairy Chimneys
A legend about these fireplaces account, formerly in Cappadocia, humans and fairies lived. But a fairy and a man fell in love (it was banned by both countries). Punishment for both was death, but the fairy queen forgave, but to prevent this from happening again, made all the fairies in pigeons, and from then on humans who lived there took care of them, which lived in fireplaces. These chimneys have inside rooms, windows and stairs to go to different floors. Currently, some operate as shelters for tourists. Another interesting fact is that George Lucas filmed some scenes there's Wars The .
Fairy Chimneys
If are famous Fairy Chimneys, no less well known are the Cappadocia Underground Cities (they could live in between 15,000 and 20,000). There are 37 underground cities in this area, the last to be discovered (which was this year), was the Gaziemir , considered the largest underground city in Turkey.
Derinkuyu Underground City
Derinkuyu Underground City , discovered in 1963, has 20 levels, of which only the top eight are shown to the public. These cities were used as shelter from the various invasions of the area suffered. (To continue to see more pictures of this underground city, I recommend this page ).
