AWARD THE MYSTERIOUS ROCKS OF HANGING ROCK

In 1900, in a village in Melbourne (Australia) called Woodend, the students of the school for young ladies Appleyard, just outside the people were preparing for a tour that celebrated annually, which this year coincided with Valentine's Day. Both girls and their teachers left in a rented car to Hanging Rock (Hanging Rock means in English, "balancing rock") , there to celebrate their annual picnic.

Appleyard College

The group consisted of 19 girls, two of her teachers, and the driver of the rented car. It is just 7 km from the school at Hanging Rock, a very popular at that time by the unusual geological formation. Very near the base of the rock was a good place to eat and rest, consisting of some makeshift tables of stone and adequate toilets and discreet service. A typical excursion spot I used to go the people of early twentieth century.

around three in the afternoon, four of the students of the center, asked permission to explore the area. Permission was granted.

But the time has come to return back to school, they realized qu and missing all four girls, plus MacCraw Miss Greta, school mathematics teacher. Given these disappearances began with a search active , believing they were simply lost in the woods. But only one was found. On the way to school, reported what happened at the station Woodend. The next day the police and numerous volunteers, returned to the area to continue your search. The task was not easy, as Hanging Rock, is an area filled with caves and chasms, hidden by bushes, so they had to be careful. But despite all the effort, they had found nothing. But after a week, one of the girls appeared.

was unconscious, had several strokes and minor cuts on his head. When she regained consciousness, he could not remember anything. Of the other two girls and the teacher, was never heard anything more. Faced with such a serious event, school was forced to close shortly. A few months after closing, note that the center's director, which had not gone on the trip, went to Hangind Rock, climbed and jumped up there, then later his body was found at the foot of the cliff.

The mystery of Hanging Rock has raised endless speculation, that if the girls were missing and fallen in a cave, that if they had been trapped by a mysterious force that the rock had, for all clocks of people went on the trip had stopped at noon, the event also meant to speak of the presence of a UFO. In order , fact or fiction, the truth is that, and ste event, has become one of the rarest and most mysterious puzzles of Australia. From what little I know about this event, Joan Lindsay , wrote in 1967, "Picnic at Hanging Rock" that years later, in 1975, would take the screen, from the hands of renowned director Peter Weir (director of movies like "The Breakfast Club Dead Poets Society, "" The Truman Show, "among others).
